Welcome to UP TO LOW

A unique theatrical event filled with music and heart, based on the book by Brian Doyle and adapted for the stage by Janet Irwin. Set in a tavern with humour so sly that all ages will have fun, Up to Low is a story of the Ottawa Valley in the 1950s, and loss and love and courage.  You’ll meet some odd and strangely familiar characters (you may even be related to some of them) and you’ll recognize the spirit of our beautiful Gatineau River and Hills.

What People Are Saying

“Brian Doyle is one of the most daring and experimental writers of young-adult novels. He deals with the most sensitive of issues –race, violence, anti-social activity of all sorts – with a tongue in cheek humour that never denigrates the human spirit.”

Eva Martin, writing in Books for Young People

“Doyle’s great gift, I feel, is that he charts for us one small corner of the world and, in doing so, reveals that it is no more out-of-the-way than anywhere else, really, once you give it a listen. He puts that one small place on the map and does so with humor and a great feeling of shared humanity.”
